Fishing for a Way to Reduce Driving Anxiety? Try Salmon

If you’re fishing for a way to decrease your driving anxiety, or your anxiety levels in general, you might want to go for some salmon. You may want to go for about 12 to 15 ounces of salmon, to be exact, as that’s the amount that will give you the 2.5g of omega-3 fatty acids that can reduce anxiety levels.

This precise level came from a study published in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity. The study examined anxiety levels of 68 medical students, half of which received omega-3 supplements while the other half received a placebo. Anxiety levels on low-stress days as well as right before an exam were dramatically lower in the omega-3 bunch.

In fact, just 2.5g of omega-3 showed the ability to decrease anxiety by 20 percent.

If you really want to take the driving anxiety edge off, Men’s Fitness suggests following up your dinner of salmon with an orange for dessert. Better yet, the magazine offers a recipe for orange salmon, with the orange offering the Vitamin C that a study in Psychopharmacology says soothes stress and lowers blood pressure. Bon appétit!
